Residence Halls

Spring 2019 Move-In

The residence halls officially open for Spring 2019 check-in beginning January 13, 2019 at 9 a.m. Please pick up your keys at the office in your area between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily. 

If you will be unable to arrive by the first day of classes on January 14, notify the Housing Information Office of when you intend to check in. If you arrive after January 14 without notifying the Housing Information Office, your assignment may change. Failure to claim your room assignment does not automatically cancel your contract.

Dining meal plans begin on January 14 with breakfast. The deadline to make meal plan changes for the spring semester is February 9, 2019.

Need to move in early?

Early Arrival begins on January 9 at noon (central time). The cost is $40 per night. There is no meal service available during the spring Early Arrival period. All Early Arrival charges will be billed to your student University account. See Early Arrival information page for more details.

  • For undergraduate halls, no reservation is required, simply check in at your hall's area office with a photo ID. 
  • For Sherman and Daniels Halls, new residents must complete the online Early Arrival Request FormYou will be notified of your approved arrival date and you can check in at the hall desk with a photo ID.


Please note that parking on campus is very limited. Upon your arrival, you may unload your vehicle from a curb or metered space nearest your residence hall (do not leave your car unattended while unloading). For longer term visitor parking that same day you must contact Campus Parking at (217) 333-3530 or Meters and lots are enforced by Campus Parking during move-in. University Housing is not responsible for parking tickets you may receive.

University Apartments

Apartment Check-in

If you will be moving in to University Apartments at Orchard Downs, Goodwin-Green, or Ashton Woods, please come to the Family & Graduate Housing office to check in. The FGH office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. We are closed over weekends and on holidays. If you need to pick up your keys outside of our normal business hours, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can make alternate arrangements.

Check-in will take 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the volume of residents arriving. We have requested that you bring completed forms and provide proof of affiliation to the University of Illinois. Check-in will be more efficient if your forms are completed in advance and you provide the appropriate documents (marriage certificate, domestic partner verification, and birth certificates, as appropriate).
